The Spirals were a concept I first played with in 2004. They resurfaced for me as I was archiving an old blog and trying to find a coal with which to start a new fire. These are the recovered tracks. Raw. Using (now) ancient tools.
It never made it to seven movements. Maybe…now?
The first movement of cycle one: a work in seven spirals — recovered from the original othertime.com, where it was posted in November 2004.
it’s a work in progress…there are seven projected movements (spirals) and each is created through the capture of improvisation. each spiral is made up of three strands. each strand is an improvisation. the first strand stands alone. the second strand is improvised over the first and the third over both of the strands that came before it. once the strands are complete, the mixing of the three is again improvised in real time with only one take. the results are raw and document a tiny evolution.
